The Trinity Collection
The inspiration that brought to life this unique range of baskets:
Adam Cornish is a young Australian designer, who launched his first project called “Trinity” with Alessi in 2013. The main purpose of this collection is to physically and visually create movement in these beautiful pieces, to encourage people to look a little bit closer.
What makes these particular designs so rich and unconventional?
When Adam decided to create this collection, he found inspiration in a specific mollusk from the cephalopod family; Nautilus.
Nautilus is considered extinct based on the discovery of fossils, dating back to the Paleozoic Era. Only in 1829 was observed alive for the first time, and therefore classified as a living fossil. Its shell was very precious and well known, it was used in jewellery early in the seventeenth century. The shell’s highly characteristic structure was the inspiration for the “Trinity” Bowl: every year another chamber grows in the shell, producing a beautiful, durable and lightweight spiral. The young Australian designer’s intent was to blend the beauty of a natural structure with modern manufacturing processes.
The Trinity Centerpiece is designed on the basis of a simple geometric shape that develops into a vortex to form an elegant concentric structure. Inside this shell, there are separate chambers that increase in number as the age of the mollusk increases and form a winding spiral structure. Therefore, the intention of the designer is
to reproduce the appearance of a natural element through the modern processes of industrial production. The shape of the Centerpiece is created through a process of laser perforations in sheet steel, which is then shaped mechanically. Due to its perforated structure and large size, “Trinity” may be used not only as a Centerpiece but also as an elegant fruit bowl.
The Trinity Collection, also includes functional baskets and fruit bowls, made of stainless steel and they come in two versions: steel with a mirror-polished finish and painted in white.
In 2020, Adam Cornish added to this unique range, a new and elegant line. The new version of the Trinity family of containers, now available in matte black, further highlights their graphic lines and sinuous shapes.
