International Women's Day
Female Designers of Alessi
International women's day is the perfect time of the year to celebrate females' talents and achievements. Alessi has collaborated with female designers from all around the world over the years, to create iconic pieces. We invite you to learn more about these strong women by reading their stories below.
Susan Cohn
Susan is an influential Australian silversmith and a designer of small objects and jewels. She directly produces in her small and yet efficient laboratory in Melbourne, in little series. Susan Cohn (born in Sydney, 1952) is also an active lecturer in international design schools.
Her talent captivated the eye of Alessi's team last year, deciding to make her Cohncave Bowls as part of the striking 100 Values Collection, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Dreams Factory. Alberto Alessi defines Susan as an Australian silversmith of extraordinary skills.
"The coupling of two meshes, or metal nets of different colours, to form the pure and essential shape of this new edition of her “Cohncave” bowl, creates a new optical effect that is very appealing and surprising." - Alberto Alessi.

Patricia Urquiola
Patricia (born in Oviedo, 1961) attended the Faculty of Architecture at the Polytechnic of Madrid and at the Politecnico of Milan where she graduated in 1989. In 2001 she opened a design studio where he deals with design, installations and architecture. She is famously known for her eclectic designs and experimental styles.
She started the collaboration with Alessi by presenting the well-known Edo collection, a range of luxurious kitchenware, becoming one of Alessi's best-selling products. The Edo range blends different cultural references and formal suggestions. Edo refers to the Latin "edere" - that is "to eat" - but it is also the ancient name of Tokyo, where the simple and graceful lines that inspired the design of this cookware range came from.
